POLICY ANALYST / SENIOR POLICY ANALYST
Reporting to the VP, Policy and Chief Economist the Policy Analyst / Senior Policy Analyst plays a critical role in executing the Business Council of Alberta’s (BCA) research and policy agenda. This takes place in two broad streams: supporting the work of BCA’s business-led Policy Committees and Task Forces and contributing to the organization’s ongoing research and publication activities. Other key elements of this position include the ability to engage with a broad range of government, NGOs and private-sector stakeholders; and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-first work environment.
BCA creates positive change enabled by great ideas and given life through persuasive communications. This role is responsible for several key aspects of this work.

You have strong numeracy skills and a good understanding of the public policy ecosystem in Alberta and across Canada.

- Provide research support and analysis for BCA policy committees
- Work with VP, Policy and Chief Economist and committee Chairs to deliver major research projects
- Contribute to BCA’s regular publications, commentaries, and blog posts
- Engage with BCA members and other stakeholders
- Attend conferences, seminars and other events on behalf of BCA
- Provide research support for BCA’s executive team
- Work independently or collaboratively to research and write policy papers, as assigned
- Assist communications team with developing press releases, editorials, social media posts, and other communications outputs
- Assist with creating PowerPoint presentations and other outreach tools
- Issue and media monitoring
- Strong knowledge of economic and public policy issues in Alberta and across Canada
- Excellent written, verbal, numeracy and presentation skills
- Proficiency in Office 365 Suite, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Ability to work well both independently and in small teams
- Effective time management and the ability to juggle multiple tasks
- Adaptability and willingness to learn
DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- A graduate degree in public policy, economics, political science, history or related field.
- Five years’ relevant work experience (more junior and more experienced candidates will be considered for appropriate roles)
- Considerable knowledge of and/or experience in at least one of the following policy areas:
- Energy and the environment
- Labour and skills
- Innovation and technology
- Tax and regulatory policy
- Indigenous engagement
- International trade and global economics
- Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
